Kutztown Community Library Internship (Summer/Fall 2017)

The Kutztown Community Library offers an internship for Professional Writing students.

Purpose: To offer an opportunity for a Professional Writing student to acquire practical experience while developing their portfolio. Intern will create and publish written materials that support and promote the Library’s programs, collection of materials, and services through press and online presences.

Setting: Kutztown Community Library is a member of the Berks County Public Libraries system. It is a medium-sized public library with over 29,000 items in the collection that serves a service population of 17,121

Salary: Unpaid

Hours: To be arranged

Duties:
  1. Research, draft, and edit articles or press releases for the library’s newsletter and local publications to promote programs, materials, and services at the library
  2. Develop and maintain online outreach by writing and posting articles and photographs via the KCL website, e-newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  3. Contribute, manage, or edit library publications which include newsletters, handouts, reports, and materials for special events through writing, researching, editing, and layout
  4. Create short write-ups describing event for submission to Community Events calendars
  5. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Candidate should be a current student in Professional Writing Program or equivalent

Skills: Strong writing and editing skills, proficient in Microsoft Office, reliable, detail oriented, able to handle multiple tasks, and strong interpersonal skills
