Clean Air Campaign – NEW Air quality in both Lehigh & Northampton Counties is so poor that it fails to meet EPA standards and is among the worst in the nation. Childhood asthma rates in some local schools are over four times the national average. Help raise awareness and generate action.

Collective Memory Project – NEW Work with a new project that seeks to put a human face on immigration in the Lehigh Valley by creating an oral history & photography project that will be displayed in community locations throughout the Lehigh Valley.

Communications & Media – NEW Help develop ways to effectively communicate the concepts and ideas of sustainability to the public, in partnership with the Clean Air Campaign, Public Health project, and other sustainability projects.

Public Health & Sustainability – NEW Help create wider awareness of the impacts on public health of taking action to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, serve healthier food, reduce commuting trips, minimize waste, and implement other sustainable practices.

Campus Sustainability – Get your campus up to speed on sustainability, including energy conservation, local and organic food, Fair Trade, composting, green building, transportation, recycling, waste minimization, and related efforts.

Democracy in Action – Take action to create change in public or institutional policy in connection with sustainability and social justice issues, working with the Alliance and/or other local organizations.

Work on something that matters to you—join an existing action project or help start a new one.

Editing & Publishing – Coordinate content and publication of the Alliance’s annual directory of Organizations That Promote Sustainable Communities and our Earth Days Calendar.

Graphic Design – Improve visual aspects of efforts to raise awareness of sustainability issues and help with graphic design aspects of the Alliance’s annual directory of Organizations That Promote Sustainable Communities and Earth Days Calendar.

Sustainability in Business – Environmental responsibility and sustainability are often thought of as being in conflict with good business practices, but in most cases sustainability is good business.

Editorial Intern

General Statement:
Building on two centuries of experience, Taylor & Francis has grown rapidly over the last two decades to become a leading international academic publisher of both books and journals. The Philadelphia office oversees the production, marketing, and management of all US-based journals for the company. The primary function of this position is to expose the student to all aspects of the publishing business while assisting the Editorial Department with the management of our journals. This is NOT a writing or editing position.

Summary of Duties:
 Update and maintain databases of contact information and other information
 Research and maintain indexing/abstracting information and services
 Internet research
 Assist in maintaining complimentary copy list
 Coordinate mailings
 Assist in handling routine inquiries and paperwork
 Maintain efficient journal filing system
 Assist with maintenance of website content
 Handle specific projects as assigned

Required Skills:
Knowledge of PCs; computer programs MS Word, Excel, and the Internet. Familiarity with MS Access a plus. Must be organized and efficient. Ability to balance on going projects and day to day work load.

Minimum 15 hours per week. Paid position ($9 per hour).

Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Research Analyst will be to assist with acquiring and updating market research sources, reading and analyzing daily news stories pertaining to different commodity markets, and summarizing the information. The Research Analyst will assist with the production of a compilation of daily news summary reports for online distribution to global clientele and aid with publishing reports online using our web portal. The Analyst will also assist with marketing the reports and work with management to discuss marketing strategies.

University Relations

English Department:

I am the periodicals manager at KU in the office of University Relations. In that capacity, I edit the Tower alumni magazine, the Family Ties student/parent newsletter, and write the KU Pride online newsletter.

I am seeking a writing intern for the fall 2010 semester. I could use an intern for up to 20 hours per week to assist my office in all phases of writing, copy editing, and proof reading. This is an unpaid position. A computer with Internet and printer access will be made available in my office, and the student will work directly with me.

I am seeking a student whose interests as a writer are focused on news and feature writing with a strong background in grammar. In return, I will guide the student through the use of the Associated Press Stylebook, feature writing, and more.

Please share this information with your department. I will begin interviews for this position this summer, and would like to make a decision by Aug. 15 (if possible).
